An 81-year-old woman who went missing in the Michigan woods for 20 hours was found with the help of a police dog, according to authorities.
In a July 3 post on X, Michigan State Police (MSP) said troopers responded to a house in Ogemaw County’s Richland Township, after a family member said they last saw the woman the night before.
After arriving at the residence, troopers found a motorized chair in the garage as well as the missing person’s coat, purse and cell phone.
Authorities said that the MSP Canine team, Trooper Whited and his K9 partner Loki were called in to help with the search.
“Upon arrival, Loki began tracking through the woods behind the residence and located a pair of gloves and a walking cane leading down into a steep ravine,” the statement continued. “A short distance later, Loki located the elderly woman at the base of the ravine unable to move.”
MSP troopers and first responders helped carry the woman out of the woods while a heavy rainstorm approached, said the law enforcement agency.
